As we know that sun is a heavenly body providing earth with heat and light, these are called as sun's solar energy.
Now we can harness this energy for our own use. Solar cells can convert light energy into electrical energy. Big mirrors can be used to direct rays of the sun to huge boilers that can produce electricity. Solar cookers and solar water heaters are common household items. Much research is underway on developing products that can retain heat and can later transmit the heat energy for doing various purposes, running compressors for air conditioners is highly probable.

Sol = sun, so solar energy is energy that comes from the sun. We can use solar energy instead of energy that comes from the burning of fossil fuels to have a cleaner energy source. It only really works well in areas that get a lot of sunshine, and at a fairly direct angle (i.e. the closer you are to the equator, the better the chances of using it). Some examples are: in Australia they use it to heat water - they have black pipes on the roof that heat the water, then the water goes into a tank for storage.
We can use solar panels to power small buildings, or to recharge batteries.
Is that enough detail for you?

solar energy is what comes from the sun. the beauty if it is that it will always be there and we can never (for a few billion years at least) run out. the problem with it is that our current technology is not very efficient at converting solar energy to electricity. so that it taakes relatively large arrays to convert useable amounts of energy. there is alot of research going on though so it's only going to get better in the future.
