My step daughter is 17 years old, and just found out she is pregnant. We've spent about 10 years in an ongoing custody battle with her mother. She does not want to live with her father. At 17 can she be legally considered an adult and given the right to choose where she wants to live?

I know a number of you have asked me on the side what she is doing pregnant...simply put..her biological mother lets her do whatever she wants, whenever she wants....now that we have custody of her during the school year, her father and I are expected to "clean up her mother's mess."

Neither. She is considered an adult when she reaches the age of majority which is 18 in your/her state. The decisions that she is legally allowed to make when the child is born will vary from state to state, but are generally limited to hers and the child's health care.

In the state of Michigan yes at 17 you are a legal adult...Regardless at that age she should know what she wants and the judge should take that into concideration..

No.... she can go through the court and get a legal separation from her father but that's the only way other than to wait until 18.

When it comes to committin a crime, she is considered an adult. Or I should say prosecuted as one but legally the age is 18 years old. At the age of 18 they are grown and you are not held responsible if he/she goes out into the world and does something he/she doesn't suppose to.

It depends on what state she lives in. Contact a lawyer and find out the laws in the state for which you live.

In Pa Yes, In Nj No, this gurl is smelling a lot of herself now that being that she has had a baby thinking she is grown, she now needs to learn responsiblity and when she turns 18 let her go. let her see what it is own her own but right now you have to deal with it, but if she runs away call the police report it cover yourself and leave it alone.
