It's permutation with repetition so it is 9! divided by 4!X2!, hence letter 'e' is repeated 4 times and two 'n' too

The answer is the factorial of the number of letters divided by the factorials of the number of elements of each kind of element (in this case, the same letters)
9!/1!4!1!2!1!
= 9 · 8 · 7 · 6 · 5 · 4!/4!2!
= 9 · 8 · 7 · 6 · 5/2
= 9 · 4 · 7 · 6 · 5
= 63 · 120
= 7,560 permutations

There are 7,560 different ways you can arrange "seventeen".

There are a total of 9 letters, and you can only use each letter once, thus you have 9! (9*8*7*6...)

But there is no difference between seventeen and seventeen (changing the e's around) so we need to divide 9! by 4! (since there are 4 e's) and 2! (since there are 2 n's). Our finished result will look like this: 9! / (4!*2!*1!*1!*1!) which equals 7,560

There are 9 letter positions. You are partitioning them into a group of 4, a group of 2 and three groups of one to hold the letters e, n, s, v, and t respectively.

They number of ways you can do this is 9!/4!2!1!1!1! = 7560
