EVERYONE IS THE STAR IN THEIR OWN PLAY, AND EVERYONE IS RIGHT IN THEIR OWN MIND.
I THINK REPEATING MISTAKES IS ABOUT BEING RIGHT. THEY REFUSE TO ADMIT THAT THEIR WAY DIDN'T WORK THE FIRST TIME, BUT THEY HAVE THE DRIVE TO TRY IT AGAIN.
PEOPLE DO THE BEST THEY KNOW HOW, WITH THE WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE THEY HAVE. IF THEY REFUSE TO ADMIT THAT THEY ARE NOT ALWAYS RIGHT, THEM THEY DO NOT GAIN WISDOM OR KNOWLEDGE.
MISTAKES AND OBSTACLES ARE OPPORTUNITIES IN DISGUISE. THEY ARE OPPORTUNITIES TO IMPROVE SOMETHING, OVERCOME SOMETHING, AND LEARN SOMETHING.
THE MAIN THING A "MISTAKE" TEACHES US IS THAT A CERTAIN ATTEMPT DIDN'T WORK. THAT NEEDS TO BE ACCEPTED, BEFORE ONE CAN RESOLVE TO TRY SOMETHING ELSE.
WHEN ONE RESOLVES TO TRY SOMETHING ELSE, THEY HAVE GAINED WISDOM. AND WITH THAT WISDOM, THEY DO NOT REPEAT THEIR "MISTAKES".

Well, I think people find themselves in the same situations because they don't learn from their mistakes. They'll notice it at first and then they'll do it again because it's inveterate. It becomes habitual and it's done constantly. Of course, from biology, you should know habits are apparently hard to change since it becomes innate in a way. I feel like when people encounter the same thing over again, they don't know how to respond because all they know is what they've done wrong and haven't come up with a solution to the situation.
P.S. By the way, I love how you post psychology questions, it'll help me in my AP Psychology class.

Lewis

It could be a subconscious desire to relive a certain situation that the person has been through and is not happy with the outcome, in order to change the outcome. If the person does not realize that this is what he or she is doing, then he or she will not consciously make the decision to change the outcome, and so will probably fall into habit, and the outcome will continue to be the same as a result.

It's called life lessons. If you don't learn it the first time, you will be put in similar situations until you do. You should ask yourself this question if you find yourself in the same or similar situations over and over. "What is it that I need to learn to stop this from continuing?"

Simple - because they didn't learn their lesson the first time. Life is a series of lessons (picture an obstacle course.) Some we master and some we fail. When you fail, you must go thru the same lesson again.

Life is a circle, once you walk to the end, it's also the beginning, all over and over again.

I guess it's a subconscious thing. Especially if it's a bad experience. We keep repeating the process, thinking each time that we can do better. But we don't. We usually just end up hurting ourselves. =(

Habit- we are creatures of habit and because we keep doing the same things, the same types of situations are prone to arise.
