A slipped disk is the same as a herniated disk. It is where the cartilage of the vertebra squeezes out of where it is supposed to be and pressed on a nerve, usually causing pain in the back or in a leg. Mine causes pain in my right leg and this type of pain is also known as sciatica.

There is no really effective treatment or cure. Mine has gotten better since my first experience with it 18 years ago but it causes pain all the time. I live with it and generally ignore it. It has not slowed me down (much) and I do the things I want to do. I'd sure love for it to go away, though!

Who in the world told you a slipped disk? When the center of a disk ruptures through to the outside and presses on nerves, it causes pain often radiating down a leg. Herniated disk or ruptured disks are terms.
How were you diagnosed? Did you have a myelogram with injection of dye into spine? If not diagnosis is questionable.
Sleep on firm bed, physiotherapy, back brace at times are all helpful after diagnosis. Surgery may be required in some.

It's called degenerative disk disease.Go to Webmd.com.There you will find all the info on slipped disk and how it's treated.I have this disease and sadly there's no cure,it just gets worse with age.Mine happened when I was rearended by a careless driver which jolted my back and knocked my L-5 vertabre out of place. The disk is the cushion between the bone joints in your spine and they dry up over time causing bone to rub bone, sometimes pinching an exposed nerve.Physical therapy helps to strength the muscles in your back since your spine will evenually keep you from standing up for very long as it gets weaker. The only thing that's helps the pain for me is a heating pad,otc pain meds like Tylenol, and a pain cream like "Hot Ice".Good Luck, hope you feel better.

I have a herniated disc at L4-5 and a partial compression at L3-4, which happened on the job. I was out of work for a pretty good while and my comp wasn't going to last very long. I decided to visit the Caribbean - I felt the warmth and salt water would help me feel better. I ended up moving there - I take a swim in the ocean every day, I have zero pain and improved mobility and ...
I take NO meds!

I have two bulging discs. My friend had 3 herniated discs and she is fine now. They wanted to do surgery on her but she went to an ART (active release technique) chiropractor. He works on the muscles around the area and was able to stabalize it enough so she no longer has any problems and still is a very active person. Go to www.activerelease.com and find a active release provider in your area and see what you think of them. If you find one you dont like try to find someone who teaches it on the website and go to them. They are amazing. My friend went into the office not able to walk and felt significantly better after. The treatment though does hurt a lot, after they are done working on you its amazing!! Even if you don't like chiropractors there are PTs that do it also. Give it a try and you should feel better in a few visits. Good luck!!
