Yes, try spreading apple vinegar with a cotton ball on all the foot or area affected. Let it dry and then wash with simple soap and water. After rinsing the soap with water, rinse your foot again with chamomile tea (you can buy it in boxes and prepare some 4 tea bags for a quart of water). Let it air dry. Then, if your treating your feet, once they're dry dust some foot powder on your them. Both the chamomile and vinegar have antiseptic properties and they kill much of the bacteria that causes athlete's foot.

I don't know how "simple" I can make it but there are cures that work just about as well as what the doctor prescribes.

No matter what you chose, you must wash the feet daily, dry thoroughly and do what you can to keep them dry. Go barefoot or wear sandals as much as possible. Wear white cotton socks when you must. Change in the middle of the day if they get sweaty. Fungus loves moisture. Athlete's Foot typically takes about 6 weeks to get rid of.

Fungus thrives on sugar and simple starches like white bread, donuts, noodles. Eliminate as much of this from your diet as you can to speed healing.

The simplest treatment is pure undiluted tea tree oil, available at health food stores & pharmacies. Apply 2 or 3 times a day. If skin becomes overly dry, moisturize with olive oil.

Pau D'arco tea works really well. Make a strong tea, using 4 teaspoons per cup of boiling water. Soak the feet in this for 20 minutes a day, every day. It will work faster if you can do it 2x daily. Use a paper towel to dry the feet. Refrigerate and reuse the tea 4 or 5 times before discarding, then make a new batch. Use for 6 to 10 weeks, or until symptoms are gone.

Native Americans once used green hulls of black walnuts to kill athlete's foot. You can purchase this in a tincture or powder at your natural foods store. It also kills ringworm and eventually even nail fungus. However, it stains skin & clothing brown.

Go to your health food store and buy an herbal total body cleanse. Perspiration is one of the body's ways of clearing toxins, so what's bothering your feet is also bothering your body. Lavender and tea tree essential oils also work against fungus; and while applying them topically to your feet, your body is also absorbing the essential oils and will use it to help rid itself of the cause of the foot fungus. The diet that Janet S suggested will also help speed balancing and healing. It's not an easy diet to follow if you eat out a lot (you also need to limit the amount of pre-packaged and processed foods), but I've seen great results from following it. I'm sensing that if you follow these instructions, you will be much better within a month.

Talcum Powder or tough actin Tinactin The tinactin worked 4 me all a athlete's foot likes wet environments but if you put the powder in your socks or tinactin this will discourage moisture and send you on your way. By the way athletes foot takes more than a day to heal though.

In my youth, we had to walk through a solution of weak bleach. If you had athlete's foot it cured it, if you didn't have it, then you were a bit more protected from it. Nothing can live in Clorox.

Believe it or not, soaking your feet in Listerine is supposed to relieve athlete's foot. I figure that if nothing else, it'll make them smell minty fresh!

Good luck!

Bleach is a surface cleanser, not meant for human skin. To kill a fungus, you need an antifungal medication.

Im not kidding. Urinating on your feet in the shower or actually soaking your feet in urine is a good remedy. Might not sound good but it works.
