My sister is a news reporter and she anchors at night in VA. She started out making less than $20K. She has been doing it for ten years now and now makes around $40K. And she is really good. She wins awards and such. Journalism is a tough & competitive market, but you can climb your way to the top. You usually have to start off in a small market and work your way up to DC, Chichago, New York- thats where the big bucks are. She aspires to be the next Diane Sawyer.

The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster, Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor, (www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale. Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career. You have to start somewhere!

It really depends on your popularity. If the viewers like you and want to see you on there, your ability to command a bigger salary increases exponentially.
