They are either shy or they were raised in a home where verbal praise or compliments weren't given very often. If that is the case then they may not know how to either offer them or give them. It's just like with familites that don't show physical contact with eachother - The kids grow up into adults who can barely even give a hug without freezing up. Though the intentions are there and they may be thinking about it, actually SAYING it may be really uncomfortable for them. It's best to be sensitive about it and not push the issue. That will only make them draw back even more.

I don't know, but if they have a girl that treats them right then they should make it a point to do so. Believe it or not,..a good women is no easier to find these days than a good man.

I think its because they dont want you to know how into you they are. They dont want you to think that you have that much power over them.
