defender: john terry, RIO!! (ferdinand), ashley cole.
midfielder: steven gerrard, lampard, joe cole
and striker: lionel messi, fernando torres, cristiano ronaldo.

Gordon Banks - THAT save against Brazil is just an example.
Bobby Moore - calmness. Brought ball out of defence so well.
Maradona - Cheat but also a telepathically-able genius
Muller - the closest thing there's ever been to a 'goal machine'
Contemporarily
Buffon - superbly solid without ever being boring or erratic
Canavarro - ditto solidity and reads the game so well
Zidane - does simple things to devastating effect
Klose - maybe a surprise this one, but just keeps getting on the end of crosses/passes and sticking them away

Goalkeeper: Gordon Banks. Wonderful anticipation
Defender: Bobby Moore. Superb balance and calm.
Midfielder: Johann Cruyff. I've never been better.
Striker: Pele. A supreme footballer. Ditto Maradonna.

dont know if they are actually the best, but who is who i like...
keeper- buffon did great in the world cup.
defender - cannavaro did great in the WC. I also like john terry.
midfielder- i like frank lampard and steven gerrard...can't think for the life of me who would be the best midfielder though.
striker- during the world cup at least, klose did awesome. i also like michael owen, but he is injured right now.

Those are the best although arguments could be made for Buffon,Terry,Henry and in a few years Messi and Fabregas
