Laying by hand, does it mean that each grass has got to be
laid by hand one by one?

As opposssed to machine laid turf this process involves the workers manually laying the rolls of freshly cut turf and cutting to size.

I think this means getting roles of grass from a place like B&Q and laying it out by hand. You need to stay off it for a couple of days and keep it watered so it can take root.

It's usually when you buy grass in long rolls and then you prepare the ground for it and unroll it and place it together and go over the seams by hand.

it means a hard job i believe it refers to laying sod but also could apply to grass plugs rather than letting nature take its course and have a yard full of weeds
