I use to chill with this guy who was so crazy about weight gain that we eventually stop talking. He always thought people were calling him fat. Whenever he didnt get the guy he wanted, he blamed it on his weight. He dieted and exercised. At one point he became bulimic.I found out that he just had the new stomach surgery where they cut the stomach in half. I always thought he was nicely built. Sure, he was heavier that average, but he was tall. when we first met he was 6'1 239. now he 164 lbs. he's real skinny now and he dont really look that attractive. but people say he's happier. he quit hanging around his old friends because, apparently, they weren't as insecure about their weight as he was. He has this new crew who all are paper thin and one them was just released from a eating disorder clinic in allentown. when did gay men gain the right to become PREJUDICE to certain people?

This isn't a gay issue - just ask the thousands of gay guys into bears.
Society has made weight a beauty issue; but it wasn't always that way. In western cultures, a little fat used to be thought a good thing; look at the women Reubens painted. And still in many cultures, being heavy is prized as an attractive thing.

Its because Men as a whole are very visual! They are sexualy stimulated by something enticing that they see, where as women can be stimulated sexually by a visual image, but evne on an emotional level. A simple Gesture of romance or kindness can get a woman hot. But because we are so visual and yes most times shallow we have to try to look the part. Now Im a big guy. I have some extra meat but I have never had a problem getting sex or a date. I have dated or sexed Body Builders, Skinny Queens, Thugs, and even professional males. It is just that there are so many GYM Homos or skinny lil MO's that work out, diet and such, get most of the oppurtunities to date the hot guys that most of us common looking homo's want to catch up! IM passed all this because I am engaged and quite happy, but when I was younger and single I felt the same way. I felt my weight was against me!

I just try not to eat too much junk food occasionally. It's not a gay thing, it's a thing about society which causes a lot of people to have eating disorders. I wouldn't want to be around someone like that, but if I had a friend like that'd I'd try to get them to accept who they are.
Someone already mentioned this but, take a look at bay bears, haha. It's the opposite of what you just explains.

darling, it isn't really nessarily a 'gay' thing, loads of people have problems with weight, and then complicate it with emotional issues, associated with depression and anxiety and so forth.
Though in the GLBTQ community (and like wise in the the rest of American culture) there is a push for beauty, I know being a guy I have to look my best to even be noticed, I workout and deit do yoga, and my dance to stay in shape. Everyone wants some positive attention and people will do alot of things to get it. And when they don't they will blame themselves.

Have you noticed that MANY Americans are obsessed about their weight? Not just people. Do you ever listen to the news?
Some people have addictions concerning food- it is not a healthy situation, but until they see a psych they won't be able to control it.
Also, many young gay men are into their bodies and appearances, but your friend went over the edge.

***** People are going to hate me for answering this question, but I'm only telling the truth*******
Because it's part of our culture and it's in our genes. No offense, but who likes fatty gay guys??? I'm 6'2 and 175. I still think I'm fat. We live in a society where people judge you based on your physical appearance.
Also being gay is hard, it's competitive. You have to look good to meet guys. It's sad but true. We are all attracted to beautiful things, and sad to say being fat is not beautiful.

I think that has more to do with society's preconceptions of beauty, a lot of metrosexuals are obsessed with weight as well. I just try to be healthier, but I don't starve myself.

most people are obsessed with their weight, including me. this man simply has an eating disorder, and it doesn't mean that all gay men do.
