I've recently been told that my girlfriend is cheating on me. If this is true, I'm positive there'd be proof in her yahoo email account as she has a couple of friends she tells everything to. I know her address (obviously) and she has told me her password in the past. So it wouldn't be me 'hacking' or anything. But I'm not about to do anything illegal. So am I correct in assuming that checking her emails would be illegal, even if she's told me her password?

Edit: I should add that I live in Canada, so am looking for specifics regarding Canadian law.

One more thing. What if she were to change her password, but I still knew the answer to her 'personal question' b/c I know her well and could probably guess it? Would that change things?

Well, if she has told u her password, why shud she have emails stored in her account for u to access. If she had to tell her friends, she wud personally tell it, not by mails, since u know da password. Do u think she's that dumb?
Well, illegal, it is. But who gives a damn.

It's not illegal but ethically wrong if you've accessed her account on your computer. I had a gf that's dating some cheating jerk, and I pulled up her account because she'd left it on my pc. I hadn't checked it since she moved out. I'd emailed her and warned her about him, but left it alone. I deleted her logon. However, no wrong was done because I didn't actually know her email password. it was on my account

well i would say yes it is illegal if you access her personal email without her being there. To be quite honest with you, DUDE leave because I'm just about going through the same thing. Someone created another email address using my name and emailed my friends and everything.

No. Accessing her email account and reading her emails is not illegal and it's not 'hacking'. If she want's to go about telling people her password that's her problem.

If, however, you were to send emails pretending to be her you would be commiting impersonation.

He has given you permission by giving you his password and login details. If he's acting in an illegal manner, do what you have to do especially if it involves children.
