What experience does anyone have with the following scam: A man from Canada wants to rent a room in a house in California, that was advertised online. The man contacts the woman renting out the room and expresses interest. He sends her a check for $2100 in her name.......and it CLEARS in the woman's bank! However, the woman, being careful, asks the man to provide details of when he is coming, how long he is staying, work and home address information for a background check, pay stub from his job, does he have any addictions, etc....... He keeps refusing to provide any of this and then asks for "some of the money back" to pay for something. He also has not provided any location for the woman to send the $2100 back, which she wants to do since she no longer trust him. Obviously, something is wrong. Any ideas what scam this guy may be trying to pull?

The check may still bouce or be drawn on someone else's account. Maybe contact the bank the check was written. I rent houses also and always make a copy of the first check for my reference purposes.

Definitely don't send money to this guy without doing more checking.
