Love is an emotion of intense attraction to, care for, or identification with persons, place(s) or thing(s); a desire to be close to, move and construct its object. This can include love for one's self.
However, love has several different meanings in the English language, from something that gives a little pleasure ("I loved that meal") to something that one would die for (patriotism, pair-bonding). And in contrast to the definition at the top, frequently people use the verb "love" to indicate want or desire for themselves as opposed to for another. For example: "I love ice cream," or even "I love her/him," does not refer to desiring wellness for ice cream, and it may not refer to desiring wellness for her/him, but rather to the desire for ice cream or for her/him felt by the speaker. The word also frequently indicates elevated appreciation or admiration: "I love that artist." Love can describe an intense feeling of affection, an emotion or an emotional state. In ordinary use, it usually refers to interpersonal love. As an experience usually felt by a person for another person, it is commonly considered impossible to describe. Dictionaries tend to define love as deep affection or fondness.[1] In colloquial use, according to polled opinion, the most favoured definitions of love include the words:[2]
1. life - someone or something for which you would give your life.
2. care - someone or something about which you care more than yourself.
3. friendship - favoured interpersonal associations or relationships.
4. union - a synergistic connection, as in the perfect union of two souls.
5. family - people related via common ancestry, religion, or race, etc.
The concept of love, however, is subject to debate. Some deny the existence of love, calling it a recently invented abstraction. Moreover, approximately 13 percent of cultures reportedly have no word for love.[3] Others maintain that love exists but is undefinable; being a quantity which is spiritual, metaphysical, or philosophical in nature, etc. Perhaps due to its emotional primacy, love is one of the most common themes in art.

Love or at least, true love is an emotion that most human beings experience at some point in their lives. Love itself comes in many different forms, some of which are experienced at different stages of life than others. Different people acquire the ability to experience true love at different times in their lives.
Adolescence is the stage in one’s life where a person crosses the threshold between childhood and adulthood; their physical, intellectual, and emotional selves begin to evolve in parallel. True love is not a childhood emotion, but as soon as a person enters adolescence, their capacity for experiencing it begins to develop. For some, but not all people, this occurs in the teenage years. For others, it may happen earlier, or later. The fact is, that no two people are the same, and it is hopeless to try and place a definite timeframe on when this happens. Statistically, it happens between the ages of thirteen and nineteen, but this does not account for everyone.
A small percentage of people are probably capable of experiencing true love before they enter their teenage years. Another small percentage probably don’t gain this ability until later in their lives. This is because everyone matures at a different rate. For romantic reasons, someone who has not yet entered adolescence, could experience the same emotions as someone who has matured to the level required. Although the physical aspects might be absent, the emotional impact would be the same. It is still true love in this case. On the other hand, someone who has passed adolescence might lack the ability to experience true love, due to a genetic or developmental disorder. Statistically, though, teenagers have reached the level of emotional maturity necessary to experience true love, although this doesn’t mean that all teenagers have.
Everyone is unique, and it is inappropriate to place a stereotypical clause on a person’s capability of experiencing true love. It is unfair, especially since this emotion is so complex that we will probably never fully understand it. Each person feels true love in his or her own unique way. The only person fit to be chosen to discern one’s capability of true love, is that person himself/herself.
True love is an emotion that can be experienced by anyone, young or old, provided that they have reached the required level of emotional maturity. The point at which one reaches this level is not determined by age alone. Some, if not all, teenagers are certainly capable of experiencing true love. That's love.

Love is having a reason to get up, it is knowing you will always be with your best friend, it is hurt so bad you think you might die. It is the reason most of us live for, it is being willing to die for someone else. It is knowing that having this person in your life makes the world a better place. Well, it is to me anyway.

Love is crap. The word love shouldn't exist. Instead, people should have to use the words:
Regard, dedication, propagate, affection, attachment, devotion, fondness, favor, partiality, preference, crush, desire, infatuation, longing, lust, yearning, eagerness, enthusiasm, fervor, zeal, respect, idolatry, allegiance, fidelity, loyalty, anti-aversion, unnatural disgust, loathing, rancor, emotional attachment, addiction, lust, greed, insecurity, etc.

There is no real answer to this question but what I have learned of what love is to me and that is the word LOVE itself holds the answer.......
(L)isten: and validate them by hearing and empathizing.
(O)verlook: their minor character flaws as they will overlook yours.
(V)alue: who they are and what they mean to you.
(E)xpress: how you love them not just with words but with actions.
