I listened to mostly R&B and Hip Hop mainly because I grew up listening to those kinda music. But I began to dig into a more Alternative Rock music genre but still listened to my R&b/pop/hiphop stuff. What I've noticed from people's perspective is that when I started listenin to Alternative Rock, some say Im white washed or I like white music. I never get that when i listened to r&b or hip hop. People dont say im a black washed or i like black music. Why is that?

Im asian.

Because people love to stereotype...their stupid. You can listen to whatever you want and different music appeals to different people. Music shouldn't be about color. I don't know why people do crap like that.

they are simple minded idiots! Music is an art, and it makes no difference what color. Look at it this way, the blues is the start of rock n roll, rock evolved from the black folks woking on plantations, back during the oppression, who sung songs about their labor and their lives to pass time. So the white washed Rock you are listening to is actually derived from the black men and women who made up songs while they were forced to work. So if anyone wants to get serious about it, thank the black/colored/african-american people for their generous contributions to music of all kinds, not just rap, r&b, and hip-hop.

(sorry if I offend anyone, I don't mean this to have any racial tones in it what so ever.)

Many times the origins of music depict the stereotyping of that music. For example, opera is usually related to European tradition whereas Jazz is strictly American and is America's opera.

Throughout history and most notable the nursery rhymes we sang as children have meaning and influence when freedom of speech was outlawed and the press was not offered to everyone. So, songs and tunes became a way of communication.

Elvis Presley was a great innovator whose gyrations and music, originating from jazz, changed the way many people view an entire generation who needed to speak out about the issues of the day. How ridiculous it was when Ed Sullivan did not allow Elvis to be shown from the waist down when Presley appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. Values needed changing and they were changed.

The point is that music, art, theater, etc. will always be challenged because that is what makes music. It challenges everyone to listen and appreciate and interpret its intent and content.

That is purely stereotyping, don't even give a damn about that kind of thing. I'm Asian and I listen to rock/alt/indie and many of my Asian friends listen to that genre also, some of my other Asian friends listen to hiphop and R&B, it's just your own personal preference of what music you like best!

You can't stereotype whole genres of music to a race! That's a very immature idea. Certain people just have a limited mindset.

They're just a bunch of haters. Music is music, and everyone should enjoy the kind they like. Don't let racist remarks dictate what you listen to.
