To tell you the truth that is a pretty simple question, which might make it a little more difficult to explain. It is like trying to tell someone why 2 + 2 is 4.....but I will give it a shot...

There are many different ways to think about this for you. You can either make the 3/5 into a decimal value to make it easier. Or you can make the 8 into a fraction with a common denominator to the 3/5. We will go with the latter.

If 1 = 5/5 then 8 is of course 40/5 (8 x 5 = 40)

We then have 40/5 divided by 3/5....the 5's cancel out and we are left with 40/3....which of course is much easier for you to do...and the answer is 13 1/3 (13.33333)..

Hope that helps...

Dividing by a number is the same as multiplying by the number's reciprocal. The reciprocal of a fraction is just flipping the numerator and the denominator, such as 3/5 and 5/3. So 8 divided by 3/5 is the same as 8 times 5/3.
8 * 5 / 3 = 40 / 3 = 13 1/3

this is the way to do it:
8/1 divided by 3/5 = 8/1 times 5/3 = 40/3(improper fraction)= how many times 3 goes into 40 (13 times and 1 remainder out of 3) therefor the answer is 13 and 1/3
simply put: 8/1 x 5/3 = 13 1/3

You have to cross multiply.

1. You put 8 over 1 (8/1)
2. Then you flip the fraction (it is now 5/3) and multiple straight across. Or you could leave it as 8/1*3/5 then corss multiple to have 8*5 over 1*3 but I always flip the second fraction, it is easier to me that way)
3 You should get 40/3 then just reduce that down (3 goes in to 40 13 times with 1 left over) you should have 13 1/3 .

Good luck on your test!

8 divided by 3/5 is the same as 8 multiplied by 5/3. So the answer is 40/3 or 13.333333333333333333333

this is what the problem would look like:

8/1 divided by 3/5 = ?

invert the second set of numbers ie:

8/1 & 5/3

once you've done that you multiply the numbers and then simplify the fraction if possible....so your answer is :

8/1 * 5/3 = 40/3 = 13 1/3

When you divide by a fraction. you just multiply by the opposite of that fraction

Example: 8 divided by 3/5 is in fact 8 multiplied by 5/3

take the reciprocal (spelling?) of 3/5 and multiply it by the 8
8 * 5/3 = 40/3 = 13 1/3
