Stick to your sleep schedule with a set bedtime like 10pm or whatever you like. Spend the hour before bedtime in a quiet activity like listening to music, reading calming things, etc. Drink a little warm milk. If you want to try an herbal sleep aid--Valerian and passion flower capsules or tea. Wear comfy bed-clothes and have a nice quiet bedroom. Get a noise machine if your neighborhood is noisy. You know, one that has wave and rain sounds.

So sorry to hear this. I had that problem for three months, it was the worst time of my life. I took Ambien (10mg) soloft, anti anxiety pills, nothing worked, did hypnotic cd's tried all possible sleep hygene, nothing worked. I was very stressed at the time, in a horrible relationship, and a international flight attendant, based out of Chicago, but living in San Antonio. When I decided to change my relationship, my job, and read a book about insomnia that told me to actually start out sleeping only 3 or 4 hours per night, I got better. What you need to do is figure out what you are stressing about, deal wih it, and only allow yourself 4 hours in bed every day. And if you can't fall asleep after trying for 20 minutes get up, and try again when you think you can fall asleep. It took me about a week to start turning it around, and I do pretty good now 4 years later.
Good luck .
And please don't try sleeping pills, although they say they are not physically addictive, they will be psychologically addictive

Melatonin supplements can be an effective and side-effect-free sleep aid for adults suffering from insomnia. Melatonin should be taken 1-2 hrs. before bedtime. This schedule is designed to release the added hormone at the same time that natural production peaks. When you awaken you should feel refreshed - not tired or groggy. You can purchase this supplement at Wal-mart, it's very inexpensive. I use it often and have had no problems with it. Sweet dreams!
