The deposit is yours- minus any deductions that are allowed according to the lease & condition of the property.
Since the money is yours, you can do with it what you want- including giving it to your ex to apply to the deposit on his lease.

The deposit stays with the apartment until it is vacated by all parties. You are not entitled to it unitl the apartment it is empty. Therefore, since you left, the deposit is his (although its in custody of the management).
Technically, unless he's legally on a lease, you are still responsible for the apartment. You can give 30-day notice (unless he has already been added to an exisitng or given a new lease) and get the deposit back after that. If he doesn't move after the date you said you'd be out, there can be serious problems leading all the way to an eviction, which could affect you both. It's risky if you go with this approach.
Sorry!

The deposit is yours. If the landlord refuses to give it back to you take him to small claims. Bring a copy of your lease and a copy of your divorce. Its a sure win.

You forfeited your deposit when you left and he remained. It stays with the property until all tenants residing there vacate

You are entitled to it, and should not let the landlord get the impression you have agreed to allow your ex to benefit from it.
