Japanese - Akira Kurosawa is the best director of all time. He inspired a lot of today's directors. Then there is Kenji Mizoguchi another brilliant director. No, the Japanese do it better. Unless of course you want to count Stanley Kubrick or David Lean, then it is a tie beween the Brits and the Yanks.

The Japs. Miike is about the best director around these days.
Of the two options I would say that UK does the best comedy, drama and horror. Nobody beats Hollywood for action (except perhaps some of the new stuff from Korea) and Hollywood also has some damn fine CGI these days.

apples and pears, while their both good,American films have gone too main stream, while British films seem to go around romance and gang, rough guys and witty guys...the british are making movies the old ways with real charictures while american movies have all big stars, and top 40 music, not making good movies, but making movie for teens and "the in crowds",hollywood has had nothing but **** the last couple of years, with a few good movies, but mostly ****...im am an american....and good day to you

Brits. They make thoughtful, intelligent films that aren't geared to the lowest common denominator. They are greared toward intelligent educated audiences. Perhaps that's why they aren't appreciated in teh United States. Before I get too much criticism, I am American!
