Movie Expert anyone?

Looking for an American movie from 70s or 80s where the theme is a school who is being build up after falling apart, based on a true story I think..Remember that a student painted a horse (pegasus or unicorn?) on the wall in the school cafeteria..
Can anyone help me find the title?

It almost sounds like Lean On Me starring Morgan Freeman, but I am not sure. It was made in 1989.
