I just got a ticket in Santa Monica for going through a red light. I was in the left lane, stopped at a red light, then the left arrow turned green and I went straight. I wasn't even aware I had gone through a red light and had to ask the cop why he was stopping me. I cannot afford to pay this right now and it was a totally honest mistake. Are there recommendations on how to get this dismissed? P.S. I recently moved to town, and was also up all night with my 3-yr-old (I'm a single parent), so those could have been factors why I did that.

go to the court...when the judge calls your name and asks your 'plea' or whatever they call it just say; "guilty with explanation"...after all you know you did something wrong. This way he will listen to you and acknowledge your position. I would imagine he would bring the fine down to the state minimum.

Roads are roads and it is not as though you were driving in a foreign land where rules can be VERY different. I think you should just take this one on the chin and accept your responsibility and hope the judge is lenient enough to make the fine a small one.

If you had your 3 year old in the car and mistakenly ran the red and got T-boned I am sure things would be VERY different for you, thank your lucky stars and drive safe. good luck to ya!

I don't know if there're traffic lawyers who "win or it's free" like we have them up here in Toronto, but get one. You're better off paying more than the fine for those guys to do the work, than having a ticket like that on your insurance record resulting in higher premiums.

You have a very tough case and all those excuses you made about it being "an honest mistake" and "up all night" with your 3-year-old won't hold up in court at all, regardless if it was the case or not. The judge'll look at you and yawn, prosecution'll argue so many things that I don't have time to list. I'm sorry, but that's the truth and reality of it.

you may strive against a site visitors cost ticket, yet once you're negligent in replacing your brakes, then that's on you. If it grow to be a flaw in the brake layout or with the vehicle, then you definately've gotten a criticism with the vehicle's producer. you'll opt to communicate over with a criminal professional if it really is the case. A criminal professional might want to recognize each and each of the in's and out's of the criminal gadget to effectively get you out of the cost ticket, and then bypass to the vehicle or brake producer for the fee you incurred for the criminal professional and time faraway from artwork. when you're literally not keen to flow by skill of all that, then merely plead in charge and be conscious in case you'll get court supervision (or the equivalent on your state), that could erase the violation out of your record after X type of days with no site visitors violation.

Bottom line, you did violate the rules of the road. You can try and fight the violation, but you will have no defensible and acceptable reasons for your violation. I am sorry.
