Many things have contributed to the diversity in the workplace. One is the economy-it is difficult to raise a family without two parents working. Another is the move from the home to the workplace of the majority of women. They want a career and a family. Older workers retire and go back to work because of the high cost of health care. Many moms work full time to provide health insurance for the family but their entire paycheck goes to pay the daycare bill. Some students don't like school, drop out, and enter the workforce early, or learn a trade or become an apprentice to go straight to work. There are many reasons.

What kind of diversity are you talking about? If you mean diversity in the field of jobs, it's because there are so many occupations. If you mean diversity in the workers, it's because the employees reflect the makeup of the country. You don't say which country you are talking about, but if you are speaking of ethnic diversity, there are very few, if any, nations in the world today who do not have some degree of ethnic diversification. And that has to be reflected in the work force because the work force is just people.
Aside from the ethnic diversification, there is the simple diversification of males and females. Red heads and blondes. Black hair and brunette. Blue eyes and brown. etc.etc.etc. If you wanted workers who were identical, you would be talking about robots or clones.

You mean, why do so many people do so many different things? It's just that those who can sell, sell. Those who can count, do bookkeeping. Those who can lead, let others make decisions for them. Those who can answer questions ask. Those who can ask, answer their own questions.
