We're having a big event at work and we want the staff to be easily identified to the attendees. We don't want to order matching shirts/hats. Any ideas of what we can do simply and still stand out? Staff is 80% female.

Telling them to wear one color runs the risk of other people there wearing the same color, even though they aren't with your group.
Give everyone a small tag to wear on their clothing. You can buy the pins at a local store, then print out your company's logo or name to put on them. Or maybe have it put on a necklace or bracelet, it should be clear plastic that you can insert the label into. A small ribbon in a certain color, or combination of colors, would work as long as it's not a popular support color. (Pink for breast cancer, yellow for troops, black for POW/MIA, etc...) I'd stick with a pin since it's inexpensive and easily worn by the women and men.
You could always go to your local craft store and find something that you like, then buy enough for everyone. Many things come in bulk for crafts, so it would be easy to get enough for evrybody. Then they can put it on however they want, as long as you tell them it needs to be noticable ny the staff at the location. Some could put it on their shirt collar, other on a hat, etc...

You should let everyone wear their own style in the same color. We did this with one of our functions it worked great. Our staff looked really professional in all white.
