Here is a tip I only received about a week ago. I have not tried it so I don't personally know if it works but it is claimed to work miracle in getting rid of ant. Aspartame is the artificial sweetener found in NutraSweet and Equal. Sprinkle the contents of packets wherever you have ants whether inside the house or in the yard, Inside for small black ants you may have to mix with a little apple juice and outside you may have to mist the area after sprinkling the packets. I am told Aspartame was originally developed as an ant poison and that it works on most species of ants including Fire Ants. Worth a try. Good luck! I hear Boric acid works well too.

There are many answers on how to control ants besides boric acid (I never had any luck with it, myself, but others differ). Check my list of links below for many step-by-step instructions as well as many, many tips from other users as well about other things that work well for ants. Maybe, if you browse through, you will find something that will work for you. Good luck!

Borax does work. Make your own ant bait by adding a measure of clear karo surrup with 2% borax and maybe some mint jelly to make it smell. Mix it, put it in a bottle cap or yogurt container with holes and spread some around the ground (if outside) and the ants will come, eat it, carry it back to the nest and kill the colony. I use this around my wood piles - works!
PS: They do sell this stuff (Tarro) but why buy what you can make!
