I have been taking Junel FE 1/20 (the generic version of Loestrin FE 1/20) and I have been having horrible side effects. I have fealt exhausted, moody, depressed, my hair is falling out more then usual, I am bloated and I got cramps in my calves. I have only been on Junel for 2 and 1/2 weeks and I can't even speak withmy Dr. I have been trying to talk toher for days now but all I get as some nurse calling me back and telling me I will be switched to Kariva (the generic version of Mircette and Desogen) and I am scared to switch again... almost paranoid. If anyone has ever taken Junel, Loestrin, Mircette, Desogen, or Kariva please tell me your reaction to it. I can use any imput you have.

Just so you all know I am 22 and have been on BC since I was 16 to regulate my Period... I was first on Estrostep which gave me 2 periods a month, then on Ortho Tri Cyclen which seemed to be fine but I switched to the patch for convienience then after a year and a half of being on the patch I started spotting randomly, so they said it was time to go back to the pill. So I know I can be fine on BC... I am just getting nervous that I was switched from such a high dose patch to such alow dose pill and now my body is going haywire.
Anyone who has taken these pills mentioned above please tell me your expieriance...

People sure don't listen on here. Did you not just say that you have been trying to call your Dr.? GEEZ! Why r people telling you to call your Dr. I hate that! Anyways.........you need to call your Dr. (j/k) I had major problems with birth control that changes the hormones in your body. I no longer take anything that messes with the natural process. I just use condoms. I know you don't want to switch birth controls again, if I were you, I would stop taking them all together. forget it. Use condoms. My mom's friend is a emergency tech down in CA and about 10 years ago, he said you would be surprised at how many women get wheeled in Dead on Arrival cuz of birth control pills. Stop taking them. But make sure your Dr. knows (or actually, the nurse. Since that is all you are able to get a hold of now a days.) Tell the nurse you are gonna stop taking it because you feel horrible. I was on that 1 month shot and i got really depressed. I have been on Anti-anxiety pills (aka anti-depressants) for 3 years now. It really messed me up. Now, i am scared to stop taking the anti-anxiety pills cuz i don't ever want that feeling to EVER come back.

If this was happening to me I would quit taking it all together. And I'd start up with something new during my next cycle. And I would also make sure that the new Pill is not related to the other Pill in ANY way. It sounds like you are allergic to something in it. I'd ask to try a different brand all together. So I'd call the doctor and tell her (or the nurse) that you have quit taking the Pill that she prescribed because the side effects were too much for you and that you'd like a prescription for something else. Keep in mind, you can't start the new pill till your next cycle. During this time you need to use other forms of BC. Which you should do during the first month you are on the Pill anyway.

There is a copper IUD which doesn't contain hormones, though it's been known to increase cramping, and you get a heavier flow. It also increases the chances of an ectopic pregnancy. I don't like the sounds of that, personally, though my mom was trying to talk me into one since I was 15. She's always used it.. It might be right for you if you can't handle hormones. The other IUD, Minera I think? Is plastic (like a pipecleaner sort of), and DOES contain hormones.. They are slow release, so I think it will still have the same effect on you, though it doesn't come with the side effects like the other one does (well, less of them). What about just normal condoms? Most of the other choices are tricky and messy to use, and rather bothersome, unlike the IUD or pill. There is the female condom, the diaphram (like a little cap that goes inside),.... All the others i can think of have hormones (nuvaring, patch, pill, shot)... Sorry about that, and good luck finding something! Maybe your doctor will have more ideas?

I am not taking any of those pills but I know that some people aren't able to handle the hormones and can't take birth control. I wouldn't be scared to switch....I would want to switch if I had what you did. I am on ortho-tri cyclin Lo and have no problems. Sometimes I get cramping in my calves but that is caused by too little Potassium. Eat some extra bananas. Just keep in contact with your doc and give your body time to adjust.

Birth control can cause a lot of problems in many women. I myself take loestrin, but I experience different side effects than you. I get migraine headaches during my period, and I get acne from it rather than it taking my acne away. However, my period was literally killing me before I starting taking birth control, and I have found loestrin to cause the least amount of side effects so I decided to stick with it. If you absolutely need to take birth control, like me, I would recommend loestrin as I think it has the lowest amount of estrogen in it (or something like that). Anyhow, it's the weakest birth control you can take and therefore should cause the least amount of side effects. If you're just taking birth control as a method of birth control, stop taking it and use other methods. It will cause you more pain than it is worth.

I don't know about your pills. My experience with birth control was that the doctor gave me a Depo-Provera shot to handle a DUB (dysfunctional uterine bleeding) episode. The shot is not for diabetics. It flipped me from low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) to high blood sugar (diabetes).
My take on birth control is that feminine hormones help keep insulin and blood sugar in balance. Fiddle with the feminine hormones and you are fiddling with your body's fuel system. Have your doctor test you for high insulin (a fasting blood insulin test). If that is borderline or high (10 for an adult), then your symptoms may be blood sugar related.
For now, check out some of the nutrition suggestions at www.hufa.org. If your symptoms are blood sugar related, these suggestions will help level your blood sugar, no matter what medication you are on.
Best wishes.

I never tried any of those but I went through several different birth controls before I found the right one. I now take Alesse. I went through ones that gave me terrible headaches, mood swings, depression, crying spells, bleeding, bloating, eating a lot etc. I would suggest trying Alesse. I have no side effects at all from it, and I only get my menstrual cycle for barely 3 days.

You need to switch birth control pills. I never could take the ones that have progestrone in them because they made me depressed and angry all the time. Try going with something withoug progestrone in it. Good luck with your DR. the nurse probably knows as much about the birth control pills as the doctor does. Yes you may have a reaction to the next one but you just keep trying until you find one that works.
