Does it make it stay for longer or go away faster or just stay the same? I just recently had problems with my period due to working out too much. I didn't get it for about 5 months. I had to take birth control pills and this is my first month i get it regular and now i know that it's constant. Will it go away? I am 17 years old.

I know when I am exercising regular and drinking lots of water, my cycle is much lighter, shorter and less painful.

It is possible that "working out too much" was not the primary reason that you had such problems. If your body fat ratio drops too low (which might've been the result of "exercising too much") then your body reacts by limiting or stalling your period... which is extremely unhealthy. As long as you can maintain a decent body fat percentage (which has nothing to do with how you look but everything to do with your health) then exercising should not effect your cycle that much.

However, here is some advice that I have been given, nonetheless:
do NOT drink cold things during your cycle. Apparently it helps thicken the blood which causes more clotting which can cause more painful cramps. During your cycle try to only consume things of a mild to warm/hot temperature. Avoid anything that will restrict your blood flow in anyway. This should allow your menses to complete its purge more quickly and comfortably than otherwise.

I am not sure if that advice relates to your question or not, but I thought I would pass it on anyway.

By exercising your periods will not go away. It just will not be as heavy. Also, if you are taking the BCP then it should be lighter then normal anyway. The average women menstrates for 4 or 5 days. We have to. It is our bodies natural way of cleansing. Ya it is a pain, but be happy you have a normal period. It means your healthy in that aspect.

No, exercising does not in any way affect the amount of blood that comes out during your period. But it will help diminish your menstrual cramps!

No, it doesn't affect your period. But, as a nurse, I have this trick that helps me shed the endometrium (which is why we have a period), and thus (I think) helps my period get over quicker, and that is, I take an aspirin every day during my period. My period will take 5 days without it, and about 3 with.

Good luck.

No, but it should help with the cramps. Especially when you excercise about 5-15 minutes everyday leading up to your period.

working out shouldn't affect your period whatsoever, are you sure you had your problems from working out?? Anyway if you didn't have it for 5 months you should've checked with your doctor from the beginning not after 5 months... Anyway i heard that some girls don't have their periods when they are young and it's normal... but you must know the real reason behind that by going to a doctor...

not really but exercising for like 30 mins a day helps cramps

It'll help relieve the cramping at the very least, and keep your energy levels up.

Did your periods stop because your body fat dropped really low?
