He/she picked your yard, so he/she must be happy there already, However, If you want to make him/her feel more at home, you can do several things. A "toad house" may encourage him/her to stay around more -- either one you make yourself (first & second links) or purchase (third & fourth links).
The fifth link is a list of toad projects, including taming a toad! Fun!
As to warts:
From TOAD FACTS:
"Touch a toad and you'll get warts, right? Wrong! Most toads look as if they have warts, but they don't give them. Touch a toad and you'll find a friend, right? Maybe! Toads can become very tame. Touch a toad if you can. But touch it gently. If a toad becomes frightened, glands in its skin may ooze a milky juice which is poisonous to most animals if they swallow it. This poison saves toads from enemies, for toads cannot hop away as fast as their frog cousins can."
Hope all this information is some help. Enjoy your new friend!!

We have a bug zapper in the back yard and the biggest (fattest) toads hang out underneath it. They also like the sound of running water, as we have a fountain back there also, running constantly and it's a sound that's close to nature. With the dry season, it has brought them to our yard. They like it and we have not had any toads til we put the running fountain up. Happy Nature...p.s. warts are a virus and not caused from toads. You are more likely to get a wart from touching a hand rail or push a shopping cart than to contract one from a toad :^>

You are sooo lucky! We had a toad living under our hosta once and he was the most amusing little thing! I keep several frogs/geckos as pets so when that little guy jumped out, I ran in and grabbed the meal worms i use for my pets and went to feeding him. Then, every night when he would hear me step outside there he was....waiting to be fed and stroked. I didn't expect to see him after winter hit (we had a hard one that year) but as soon as it warmed up there he was...under that same hosta with a nice healthy appetite! If you choose to feed your friend, he will make a faithful little pet. Just make sure you feed him around the same time so he knows when to look for you. Mine was always more active late at night. Don't worry about warts...you can't get them from toads and BE SURE to wash your hands after petting or handling him because they really do have poison glands (lumps behind/beside head) . It probably won't kill you but it can make you really sick. :) Enjoy!

i doesn't placed the toad in with the Geckos because if any of your Geckos are male, they get very territorial. I actually have considered the dominant male actually starve the different Geckos in the tank formerly. Who knows the way it would want to react to an outdoors species? no longer properly worth risking it. I actually do no longer recognize what a toad eats yet i'm constructive they have something at a puppy provide save.

You are lucky to have this little friend in your garden. As others have said, he likely is finding just what he/she needs for survival. It always makes me happy to find one as I'm working around the gardens. Be careful with your hoe and shovel, as they sometimes are hidden under plants and even in shallow earth. A few weeks ago we had a frog somewhere in a large patch of Ivy and when we watered, he would "talk" to us. One of our sons thought we had one of those mechanical things hidden there to make the sound. It was fun, but he has moved off somewhere now.

thats so cute! they eat insects, he probably has a good supply already in your yard. You could always buy some crickets from the pet store though and see if he likes them! we have millions of baby ones jumping all over the place where i live! (outside though!)

I suppose if it is there already, it has what it needs.
I wouldn't handle it, only because you might hurt it.
I assume there are insects to eat, some dirt or a garden, and some natural water - rain certainly.
I hope someone else knows more.
Enjoy!

If it's picked you yard to live in, then it's probably already getting what it needs.
Just smile at it once in while. Kiss it if it jumps into your lap.
