Now wait a minute, I use a Mac. I have many Macs. And let me tell you, they are the BEST. You should get a MacBook. That way, if you need to use Windows programs still, you can. All you need to do is download bootcamp from apples website:
http://www.apple.com/bootcamp

and buy a copy of Windows XP Home Edition or Professional, then you can have a computer that runs both the Mac OS X and Windows XP OS! Isn't that wonderful? I prefer the Mac, but on rare occasions I need to use a PC, so I can...on my Mac! It's great! Oh, and there are over 19 Million users of Mac OS X, so it's not true that nobody has a Mac, a lot of people do! If you REALLY want to buy a PC, I would recommend Dell. My school has them, so they take a LOT of abuse, and they have been great so far. My school has had them for almost 4 years now, and they're all still in one peice! So I would recommend Dell if you really need to get a PC. But I would HIGHLY recommed a Mac! Hope this helped! And please feel free to email me if you have anymore laptop purchasing questions. Good luck!

I just bought a Macbook...it was my first Mac. I really struggled with which computer to buy as well. It has been my experience that cheap computers, such as a $500 Dell, will only last about a year and half before they start giving you problems. And the really expensive ones $2,000+ for loaded Toshiba become too outdated too soon to make it worth while for the price. The Macbook is a great medium. The new Macbooks are capable of running Windows as well as OSX, so if you buy it and don't like the Apple operating system, you can just install windows, and you're all set.

I suggest you first figure out what you want to use the laptop for. Depending upon the applications there might be specific requirements based upon CPU, RAM, etc. Think about how you will use the laptop. Only at home in one place, traveling, etc. So, based upon that decide if size is important, battery life, weight, features, etc. Once you have thought through your needs you are ready to consider what type of laptop to purchase. Of course figure out your budgeet, as prices range, from refurbhised for $200 to new for over $2000.

As far as brand goes ... IBM and Toshiba make the best laptops, followed by HP and Dell. These are all very large, successful companies and they all make a quality product. Pick two and research their products that fit your needs and budget and then you should be able to make an informed decision and get many years use out of your laptop.

It really depends on what your going to do with your laptop. I own a PowerBook G4 that I think it is easier to use than a Windows based computer, my opinion. Also, I don't have to worry about all those virii and spyware that infect windows, although some Mac users say they don't need an AV installed, I have one installed just to keep from passing on Windows virii through the emails I get from them.
