I haven't started a list yet, but Christmas is on my mind all year round when I am shopping. I try and make a note of things I might see which I think will be a suitable gift for somebody.
I am late this year with my list. I haven't had my summer holiday this year (I am going this Saturday) and I am currently in the process of buying my dream home. My time is totally taken up at the moment, but my daughter is thinking of Christmas already. She has started her list of what she wants already. Oh my God, I'm dreading it. I love Christmas, don't get me wrong, but I don't seem to get much help. That is why I start so early!!!

Yes, just yesterday I was thinking I should try and start my shopping early for a change. Christmas is my favorite holiday but sometimes I love it and hate it. I always have a hard time deciding what to get everyone. Last year I waited til the last minute. I "will not" do that again. It left me broke into the New Year. That was a real bummer.

I've been buying Christmas presents ever since last year, Dec.26. I buy them all through the year. Then come Christmastime, I have all the presents I need and plenty of money to buy yummy things to eat. I like to buy Iowa beef for Christmas dinner. It's not cheap though, so it's a good thing to plan ahead.

I keep a little notebook and write down comments that people make about stuff when I hear it like "That's really neat, I should get one." It's usually stuff they forget about liking and then "poof" it's under the tree and they are surprised that I remembered them mentioning it. It's not me, it's my notebook.
For an elderly woman, maybe get her some of the memory foam products for beds like mattress pads and/or pillows. We love ours and gave that out last year to many people. It's very comfy. Your mother may not "need" anything but you can upgrade some of the stuff she has with the latest. Overstock.com has lots of it for a good price. Shipping is very reasonable there too.

For your 71 year-old mother, I would suggest a photograph of you and her in a nice frame...you choose the picture..hehe. Umm, a lemonater is nice...something new I suppose. I haven't thought about Christmas yet...=)

Always!.
for your mother hmm.. if it hasn't happened yet, get her something that lets her know you appreciate her being your mama.. it always makes you teary eyed.
sister and brother in law hmm... i don't think a lemonater would be the way to go unless they absolutely love lemonade/juices... perhaps something that represents them both play on what you know your sister likes and would enjoy sharing with her husband

I am always thinking gifts.
Give your mom a homemade gift! She would really appreciate it.
Make a scrapbook of your life.
Really the only thing Mothers want is the family together during the holidays.

Yes, I've already started thinking about it only because my kids are giving me hints on what they want for Christmas. Have you noticed stores already have Christmas stuff out?
For your mother think about geting her a angel that stands for something. Like if she likes gardening - get her a gardening angel (google it). â

I couldn't give you advice on what to buy someone based on their age alone. I buy things throughout the year if I see something someone might like. For example, I bought my daughter a s'mores maker because she used to go to camp when she was a kid & loved them. Also a purse shaped like her dog. (I hope she doesn't visit this site) Anyway, it depends on their interests. Do they like to cook? Are they outdoor people? Movies? Music? You get the idea.
