although I set ORA_sid_autostart to true on my oracle 10g server on windows but the database doesn't get started when i restart the related service. I get the ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error, I recreated the service the problem persists. Any ideas?

here are some possible suggestions for that error message - http://www.cryer.co.uk/brian/oracle/ORA12560.htm

I haven't personally run into this so I can't vouch for the quality of the tips.

You need to start up the TNS listener. This routes messages to the server from a TCP/IP port (1521 by default) the the RDBMS. ORA_sid_autostart will only start the Oracle instance, which I guess you will find is running when you look at your services. However without the listener your screwed.

The command 'lsnrctl start' will start the listener, just not sure how to do that automatically when windows is started.
