Just out of curiousity how does one rent a place with bad credit? For example if a woman is leaving her bad marriage and the husband was irresponsible with money and ruined both of their credit how would she leave and rent a place of her own?

When you rent explain the situation and why to the landlord. Being upfront about the situation before they check is key. Don't let the landlord find out or they simply throw you on the pile of unrentable! Once a person stated she would pay $10 extra on rent for one year to prove she was responsible. Granted she wasn't in the front runner but all other work checked out with her so I rented to her. Money talks! She has been a great renter for over five years now!

Your best bet is to find a house or property that is owned by an individual investor, NOT a big apartment complex. Sometimes you'll find investors that have been trying to rent their place out for awhile, and their screening process is "loosened". I know people that have rented places and NEVER had their credit checked. It all depends on the individual landlords how they want to handle it.

If you can pay the deposit and maybe 1 or 2 months of rent in advance, that would also be very appealing and maybe cause the landlord to be more "loose" with his requirements. It's definitely best to be honest with them if they ask you about your credit, tell them your situation. But if they don't ask for it, don't tell.

In most cases if she seems like a respectable put together woman she would probably be able to rent a place with a deposit and a half. It will be challenging for her but she need not get discouraged when she gets the first no.

If you have less than perfect credit, you can always ask a family member with good credit to acts as your guarantor on the lease. Many landlords will accept this.......

doesn't matter how the credit was ruined. you have to start building it up again. if you need money try www.prosper.com or a secured credit card.
