I´m fed up of hearing that African countries are poor...let´s face it....nothing is really done to help them. The UN is one of the most corrupted organisation...the money that we contribute to the so called charities....is divided between: The program specialist, the Director of the Charity, then the bloody consultant, then the Bursar, not to forget all the other administrative staff etc. By the time the Charity is ready to send the money to Africa....well there is NOTHING left....Let´s just include them into Europe ...You will be suprised to see that some African states are full of petrol but again it is all exploted by One or two developed countries who will then pay the president of that African country enough money to keep quiet and call him a Dictator....

It is not necessary to do something as radical.

All that's needed is equal treatment.

Don't stop foreign bananas from being sold in western markets because they are too curved. Don't stop foreign made t-shirts from being sold on Western Markets. Stop subsidising inefficient agriculture and allow Africa to provide the Western world with produce at a lower cost even taking transport into account...

Furthermore, as you pointed out, let us watch what the mega-corporations do. Let's not buy products from them if they are bribing officials for example...

Let's vote with our wallets, and vote for candidates who support what we think. We have the power to change things, we must all do our bit.

The European governments will never go for this. The Eastern European countries have put a drain on the economies of the wealthier nations. They are very concerned about immigration. The only reason that the particular Eastern European countries were granted membership to the EU was because of the strength of their economies and great growth potential. There are no African nations that can allow for that. In addition, I think the fact that radical Islam is such a problem in northern African countries that the EU would not want to open its borders to make it easier for terrorists to come in.

......and, as luckybeetle said, "its not part of Europe."

I think it has to do with perceived economic value based on what you can get out for what you put in and also the fact that there are few and far between ports and landing strips other than select places along the far coasts. The continent has never been civilized despite major attempts by various religions and foreign countries. Education has never become a commodity and tribal rules govern the large majority-progress as most know it is not desirable by the natives. The continent sadly has been passed by and most people outside of Africa don't even think of Egypt and South Africa as being part of the Dark Continent.

I would remind you that the EU has not had its accounts signed off by auditors for about ten years. Also, I thought that Eastern European countries were being invited into the EU. I am lost as to why anyone would think that the EU is a good idea for Britain. I can see even more wealth pouring out by the barrel load.

Africans should ban those idiots who take photographs of fly covered sick poor children to show as entertainment for stupid westerners. It is child abuse plain and simple. A spell in a high security jail with cholera thrown in would soon stop that so thickos can stop thinking that they can save a continent when on scale they don't even have the resources to keep everyone fed at home.

Africa is an obviously losing investment in humanity when you consider all the gazillions of U.S. dollars and human energy that's been spent over there, and to see not one ounce of improvement that I can recall since I was old enough to read and understand the news, which doesn't take much intellect. And that would cover at least 45 years. At least Eastern Europe has the reason that Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin has run them into the ground for decades, but africa just keeps on screwing up anything they can till they infect the world with AIDS. I'm not for one more ounce of welfare over there. Let's see them "put up or shut up" for once. God Bless you.

How is changing the continental boundaries going to change the political structure within these countries which is one of the largest stumbling blocks to progress?

As for the charities... Check out the Oxfam, Christian Aid etc websites. You'll see very little of your money goes on administration!

I think the problem lies mostly with the corrupt regimes in the African countries rather than the Charities.

I don't really believe in all that. At so;me point it is just transferring dependency around from one place to another.
How can you help countries like Zimbabwe with a corrupt regime?
