My friend and I plan on forming a band. I play guitar, and am going to purchase a set of bass pedals, my friend plays drums. We won't to do songs people want to hear, probably top 40 from 60's to Today. Any song suggestions? I would like to here from someone who is a performer, or just anybody who thinks they know good songs.

Speaking from experience, play what you like other wise you get burnt out fast. You have to play some things for others, but remember, you're doing this for you. If you can make money at it, great, that's what I do, but don't let that be your only focus. For me, its a great stress reliever. I play every weekend in several local bands, and it makes me feel better at the end of the week. All the hassles from work are gone when you're on stage. The moment it stops being fun is when you need to either back out or change directions. Your audience will tell if you're only going through the motions. I've been there before. I enjoy what I do, and hopefully it will always be fun.
Just out of curiosity, if you are playing guitar, why are you buying bass pedals? I'd suggest that you invest in a DigiTech multieffects pedal. It saves you from buying a million different pedals, they are versatile, you can customize the sound for each setting and invent your own settings and save them. I play guitar and bass and I bought one for each. They are cheaper than buying a Zoom or a Pod and in my opinion, if you know how to really use one, they are just as good.

You have to play what you enjoy playing. If you are not having fun it will come across in your music. The crowd can tell when the energy is there and will feel it as well. I know this from watching my boyfriend's band play. When they get to the songs that are the "safe" crowd please-rs people enjoy it and sing and dance along, but it isn't until the bands favorites that you see everyone one get up and they get the loudest applause. Just from the energy difference. Also have watched many bands in my fathers recording studio and I seem to like (no mater what type of music) the bands with energy and Passion between members way better than those just playing to get it done.

I'm a drummer in a band. We play some original songs as well as some great classic rock songs. At our gig last Saturday, we played these songs and got a great response:
Simple Man, Freebird, Knocking on Heaven's Door, Midnight Special, Hey Joe, Takin' Care of Business, Mary Jane's Last Dance, Purple Rain, Main Street, Old Time Rock & Roll, Susie Q, Back in Black, Fallen Angel, Sympathy For The Devil and Turn The Page.
Good luck to you!
