In Australia, we lost the 1c and 2c pieces years ago. Well, we lost some, and then just got rid of the rest.
Some people were worried about inflation, and how to round to the nearest 5c, but they just adjust it up or down at the end of the bill.
If you could imagine a whole bunch of groceries would cost 100-150 dollars, the worst you would be overcharged due to rounding is 2c, which is a very low percentage of the bill.
It worked out fine, and now I just have to worry about the tiny 5c pieces! In line with the Ministry of Crap Design tradition, they are smaller than the old 2c pieces anyway!
I have a drawer full of tiny coins, and now I can play pirates with my bounty.
You don't want to be at my house when we play pirates. We made my brother walk the plank, which was unwise because we live in a house and not on a boat.
His bones will knit. : )
(on another note, every item that used to be $x.99 is now $x.95 so we are saving money hand over fist!

Granted, they are annoying and weigh a ton in your purse when you have too many, but lets admit it, the price of everything would go up. Most things in shops are 'something 99. Those tiny little penny's add up. This is no word of a lie, I took all my 2p's and 1p's to asda and put them in the change machine and when it finished counting I had £174.66. Not bad for throwing my loose change into a jar for the past 2 years.

because funds are extreme priced to make and we are shifting in course of a cashless society the position we can in uncomplicated words be making use of credit or debit playing cards to pay for each thing. Conspiracy theorists might want to assert that that's so large Brother can save song on all of your purchases. Your purchases tell plenty about you - no matter when you're well being wakeful, no matter if you personal pets, no matter if you weightloss plan and so on. Arguments which includes that funds are too heavy to carry were used even as Australia phased out their copper funds. some reported it grow to be to make products more effective extreme priced to purchase. each individual has a theory inspite of the undeniable fact that those the authorities used were to remove the price of valueless funds being made it really is extreme priced. The mint saves on presses to make the money and the elements to cause them to with.

Bliddy hell, yes. What a waste of copper - in fact it was reported recently that people were selling them as scrap, because they're worth more melted down.
Only good use is for kids to find and buy penny sweets.
Oh and the lucky penny ditty, "Find a penny, pick it up. Put it in your pocket, and have good luck, pass it on to a friend, then your good luck will never end."

Put them in bottle or a money jar if u have too many of them. They shouldn't be removed from circulation at all! Anyway we'll be using cents and euros soon and u'll be moaning that the cents are a waste of space and they're even smaller!

agree - total waste of space, the metal is probably worth more than the currency. they make your purse heavy and you cant buy anything with them. And all so that shops can fool you into thinking you're not really spending £100 because they call it £99.99!! All you can do with them is save them up and change them at the bank - what is the point of that?

Removing them would mess up the economy, how could you give someone change? No way to make up every sum of money using 5.10.20.50.£1.£2 , what if something came to 47p? The whole point in them is to make life easier!
