Oh, I thought you meant in sports, because , lets take hockey for example( and yes, Im from Canada) if you can stop the opposition from scoring then you have a greater chance of winning. I know this theory to be true in soccer as well, and football too !

A motion offense is an offense to get the players moving, whether its making cuts or setting screens. Most teams run some type of a motion offense, its very common among High School teams. Motion offenses also create oppurtunities to attack the basketball and make things happen.

i think you reversed the phrase. its the best defense is a good offense. which means if you score enough points, your defense doesnt even need to do anything. its a sports phrase. your roomate was probably high when he told you that because it makes no sense.

if you pound your enemy into the ground offensively, you wont have to worry about defense cause they are already beaten.
so you dont need a defense.
the best defense is the one you dont have to use.
i.e. the best defense is a good offense.

lets say your on a basketball team. If your have no defensive players or skill and have the best offense possible, it doesnt matter, becasue the other team with be scoring on you the entire game.

If someone is trying to get to you, to get on your nerves, then by resisting them, you are getting their nerves.
If you stay calm and ignore their taunts and jabs, they will get frustrated, and that will serve you better than trying to respond to them.
They win if they get an aggravated response. YOU win if you ignore htem and they go away frustrated and angry.
