I remember a formula. Atleast it held untill the reaches of silicon were reached? Why did the speed increases seemingly stop?

Corporations waiting for a stock downtime to release new tech? Perhaps a federal companies purchasing exclusive? Wheres my 5gHz CPU?

Multi core is a cheap way out, and technically no different from the average joe processor speeds.

Reaching a 9ghz processor speed, and jamming 3 , 3ghz processors into the same box so to say is not the same,

For networking, laser t ransmission will be faster than fiber optic due to the slowdown of light thru matter.

Wireless networks , millions of colors representing each datagroups, at speed of light will beat fiber optics easy.

All about good transmitter locations with clear views to eachother.

it did not. now you'll get x2, x4, x8 etc processors

cheap or not cheap, that is the only way to go. as the limits of silicon are reached (if it run 9Ghz chip would melt), people are trying other ways to increase processing power - multiple processors, multiple operation pipes, better optimization of simultaneous operations, better caching strategies, which are all valid ways to improve processing power. if you think Ghz is the only measure of processing power, you are gravely mistaken

the physical limits of silicon, copper, hyper-threading are basically reached.
it is just like networking - first thick net, then thing net(Ethernet), now fiber, next ???
