If were to have enough spare cash (I wish!) to lay fibre optic cable (Gigabit and above capable) from my home to my local BT exchange would they allow me to connect it to the 21CN backbone (remember I have lots of money supposedly to pay fees to them)? What if I volunteered to fibre up my whole street?

I also know that pretty much no data will ever come in that fast due to constrictions elsewhere but we can fantasize.

By the way you do all realise I am not serious....no way do I have that cash (or even enough to get by!)!

However, keep the quotes coming!

Virgin Media and BT do not use an analogous cables. only because Virgin Media do not have any fibre optic cables on your highway does not mean that BT do not have some. i have appeared at BT's Infinity web site, and it truly is not sparkling if the fibre cables run from the abode to the nearest cupboard, or purely from the replace to the cupboard. both way, in the experience that they are asserting they could furnish this service, there's a fibre cable from the replace to the nearest highway cupboard. If it supplies you the speed they promise, it truly is not a con. Who cares what the cable is made up of so long because it particularly works.

If BT didn't, there are other ISPs who would be happy to do so. £10,000 pa would be a bargain, though. More like that much per month.

That said, it's a fair bet that your street is already "fibred up". The "last mile" copper local loop in much of the UK is down to a few hundred yards these days.

Yes you can have a fibre optic cable laid but it would be on a fixed contract basis i belive about £10,000 a year.

Possibly, as I understand it, you have to have some telco hardware installed on-site.

Take a look at their business connections.

The company I work for has 100Mbit WAN connections at a couple of sites.

If you have the cash, they'll make it happen -- if they have fiber facilities close enough to your location.

Yes this would be horrendously expensive though

This would be a leased line.
