high cholesterol is caused by a combination of genetics and diet. ask you doctor about any medications, such as lipitor, that would benefit you.

another solution is, groan, your diet and exercise regime. here are some tips:

- switch to mrs. dash and i can't believe it's not butter for your salt and butter needs.
- avoid red meat- stick to bird and fish!
- avoid fried foods, but if you must occasionally indulge, make it yourself using olive and canola oils
- eat your fruits and veggies, but go easy on the salad dressings and mayo-based salads- have you tried miracle whip? it's pretty good.
- if you haven't exercised in several years, go for a walk every day. just do what you can, every day. you'll be amazed at how much healthier you'll feel!

even if you only low your cholesterol a little bit by doing all this, it will make a big difference!

If you are overweight, try reducing weight and eat healthier foods. Since you are fairly young, that should work. If not you may have to see a doc and he may have to place you in a statin type drug regimen. While at it, have your blood sugar checked also.
