do they really think people choose which cars to have accidents with/ or avoid having accidents with because of a sign in the window?

These signs were actually mis-represented some years ago for their intent. The original purpose of these signs is to notify emergency personnel that a child is in the vehicle. In lots of accidents, especially bad ones at night, finding the occupants of the car is not as easy as you think. May are thrown from the car or if it is a one vehicle accident the occupants (adults and children both) have been know to 'crawl out' then stumple away from the wreck only to 'pass out' some distance away. This leave EMS personnell with the task of find them.

These sign were never intended to be 'bragging sign' or a request for other to drive more carefully. The pop culture at the time created that impression and the fact that many people never took down the signs when the child was not in the car.

Today.. if EMS sees these signs, they will make an extra effort to insure all occupants of the vehicle are accounted for. But.. it is good EMS proceedure to do this anyway.

Hope this helps!

Hi,
I do not have children, but I am a Professional certified nanny with a college degree.I prefer having one of those "Baby on Board" on the back window. It makes other drivers aware that their are children in my car. people seem to respect that and don't seem to tailgate you, or honk their horn in annoyance
if you do not turn fast enough.
I don't know the statistics, or if there are any that proves these signs prevent accidents. I f ,someone needs road assistance because he/she has a flat tire,or has mechanical problems.people are more likely to stop and help if they see a woman in distress and one of those "Baby On Board" signs.
Some people, still don't have cell phones On star available with there car.
That is why, I feel, they use these signs for added protection and immediate attention in case of an emergency of any kind.

Maybe some folks really believe the signs will do some good. Really, it's just an excellent marketing plan. Someone got way rich off those signs - like the Happy Face and the Pet Rock.

They put those signs on there to let other drivers know they have a baby in the car. There is a reduced chance that someone will aggressively tailgate you or drive recklessly around you if they know you have a baby in the car.

These people put these signs in their car for the protection of their kids, pets, etc. That's a good thing. So next time you see one, you're probably too close...so back off.

"Baby on Board" was a fad in the 1980s as new parens showed off their kids.

The "dog on board" or "horse on board" signs have been used on animal transporting vehicles for ages. When hauling show dogs or a horse, the driver will tend to drive slower and take turns more gently. They'll avoid sudden stops, and they may not floor the gas pedal when pulling out. This is to keep their animals calm and to protect them from falls or injury. It lets others know to expect this.

those signs can also be good if god forbid ever a bad accident..the emergency people know there is possible a child on board. just like the tot finder stickers that you put on your childs window of their bedroom to show the fireman where the childs room is located

its actually a good idea because if you were to have had an accident the emergency services will know that could possibly be a baby or child involved as well as sometimes kids aren't strapped in properly or they can be very hard to find

Because the people displaying the signs are proud of their child or pet. It is a people thing.

It's a fad that's left over from the 1980's. Some people think it's cute. I don't think it prevents your car from being hit. It might end up being a target as people try to read what you have in your car.

Hi,
I have wondered that myself, it seems the parents think that an invisible force shield appears when they put the signs up.
I think people who use a cell phone while driving should put up a sign saying," Idiot driver on cell phone". Ok I know this is going to make a lot of people angry, but come on think about it, there have been more accidents on our roads since people started using cell phones while they are driving,so,
HANG UP AND DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
