I am learning dance tonight but I found it rather difficult to follow because I have never learn dancing before. And maybe I am too old to learn. Can anyone tell me the steps to follow it?

First, research dance studios in your area. Here is an online web site.

The cha cha is part of Latin ballroom. Usually you would count the steps as one two cha cha cha...mean slow slow fast fast fast.

Don't be discouraged, the first few classes are relatively hard. I took latin ballroom for a semester and still look weird. The important thing to do is enjoy the music and dance!

Good Luck

with weight on left leg, let the first beat pass by, step back on right and shift all your weight to right leg smoothly. (that was beat two), Step forward on left leg and shift all your weight to left leg smoothly (that was beat three), now do a side step ... side step..side step within the time, beat 4 and 1 ( as in 1,2,3,4&1) the side steps are done on 1/2 beats. This brings you to beat 2 where you step forward on your left leg, shift all your weight smoothly, rock back to side by side position, shift all your weight to your right leg, and repeat the side..side...side.....this will put you back to the top of the page here...and you start all over again. This is the basic Cha Cha step PLEASE note" The rock step (either forward or backward) is on the TWO beat, not the 1 (down ) beat...Hope this makes sense to you.
Now, once you learn the basic and it comes natural to you (remember, women are Always right, so they always start a dance on their right foot! there are so many coooooool moves to make in cha cha..but you will need lessons to do them. Cha Cha requires Cuban Motion to really look sharp .. that is why I said, shift weight smoothly to the leg you have landed on, draw out the weight shift, and let the shift be complete...as in you can stand on that leg and lift the other leg without loosing balance...this causes the hips to shift in a figure 8 motion, not side to side. The cha cha is danced in very staccato movements, especially the "cha cha cha" part of the dance...IF you make this movement too smooth, it will not look like the cha cha. IF you have done this correctly, by shifting your weight as I have told you, your body will stay over your toes, no matter where your feet are...that is necessary....when you rock forward, you take your body with your step..When you rock backward, your body must go over your foot, or you will fall down...OR you are not shifting your wieght as you are supposed to do. Dance this, and all rythym dances, on the balls of your feet, not full footed. And NEVER take a heel lead (let your weight land on your heel as you move forward. Good luck
