cleanest: south island of new zealand. No big cities, hardly any pollution. cleanest drinking water, turquoise lakes and rivers.
dirtiest: suburbs of yogyakarta (Java/Indonesia)

I think Germany and Switerland are the cleanest I have seen. I don't know why someone would say Calgary, obviously they didn't live downtown with all the dirty bums.
Afghanistan is the dirtiest I have seen. People actually take a dump on the side walks. There are piles of garage everywhere and you do not even want to know what the toilets are like.

The dirtiest places have too many competitors but I think Switzerland is the cleanest I have seen. I was impressed with Singapore and someone mentioned Germany. Southern Germany, yes. The Black Forest and south, Bavaria for sure. Mexico is clean. The dirty parts are on the border and certain parts of Ciudad de Mexico. I have friends in Villadama, Nuevo Leon and the ladies there sweep their front areas to the center of the street where the lady across the way meets her. Sidewalks are not only swept but mopped.

From what I've seen, I found Austria the cleanest place (environmentally speaking in terms of taking care of forests and natural resources, specially the Alps area) and Egypt the dirtiest (specially the city of Cairo). But that's my opinion, sure! :-)

Cleanest-Germany no doubt; I didn't even leave the airport and the bathroom itself made a believer out of me;
