I know it has green things in it, but surely plants outside it are green to. I mean, grass is green, stalks on plants are green, leaves are green.

That is because ONLY green plants are planted there. that is.. plants that would not normally live in the outside due to tramatic climatic changes in that particular area of the state.. Thus, a green house is built and ONLY those plants that would be able to life there and stay GREEN would be planted.

Because greenhouses are not made of glass. They are made of a poly-tube material that retains the heat inside the house to help the plants stay at their peak growing temperature. Most plants in the US prefer warmer climates, if you live in a colder climate you and use a greenhouse to prolong your growing season. Althought the produce that comes from the greenhouse has a bland flavor you can enhance it. The blandness comes from not being in direct contact with the Sunlight, its a more filtered sunlight. Meaning the vitamins from the sun aren't as strong.
In some areas though there are glass greenhouses, which is cool, but less effecient as the poly-material walls. To check out more about greenhouses and what you can do with them check out this site www.charleysgreenhouse.com
You can also talk to your master gardeners at the University in your state to find out what they think about greenhouses and how most of today's plants come from one!

I have heard them referred to as Glass houses, but they are usually called green houses because they are full of green plants I guess.
I suppose you could ask why is a greengrocer called a greengrocer, because not everything s/he sells is green, but I'm certain it's to do with green leaves on plants.

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use the energy from sunlight to produce sugar which they use to make fuel as we do. The process of the conversion of unusable sunlight energy into usable chemical energy, is associated with the actions of the green pigment chlorophyll, hence greenhouse

Because it looks green as it is full of green things (i.e. plants) which you can see though as the greenhouse is transparent.

Errrm it is.
Have you noticed that hot-houses are only hot on the inside? Same with green houses. Only green on the inside. But it shows all the way through to the outside too.
For the avoidance of doubt, an orangerie is not orange and there is no conserve in a conservatory.
