I got my ears pierced at Claire's 4 weeks ago, the earrings are real gold. The first 4 weeks it didn't itch but these past few days it has started to itch a LOT and I can't help from scratching it!! It started to swell a little and sometimes it turns red after i scratch it. I even tried to put itch cream on my ear, but sometimes it doesnt work. Is this normal??

Itching usually means your healing. But the scratching probably started an infection. Get some bactine and put that in it and stop scratching. Good luck.

There may be something in the gold or metal that you are allergic to....I had my ears pierced in the 1960's and after they healed, they would itch terribly....I ended up not being able to wear earrings for long periods of time....Many years later, my ears are still pierced and I can still wear earrings ocassionally....The holes never closed up....I blamed it on cheap earrings, but even the expensive ones make me itch.....I just can't wear them all the time.....Good luck to you!

Well if you werent keeping your ears clean and sanitizing the area after you got your ears pierced then most likely your getting an infection. Just get a cotton ball with some rubbing alcohol and clean up the irritated/infected area around your earing. They should have given you a sanitizer to use?

Keep your hands off them, and try to keep your hair off them as well. Take soap and water and clean them at the very very least once a day, to minimize any additives that may be irritating your new holes. You may also need to have a different type of jewelry - post earrings don't tend to allow enough room for swelling and for effective healing. Captive bead rings tend to work very well for healing lobe pierces - you may want to visit a local reputable piercer for rings and possibly healing advice.

Good luck!

Don't put itch cream on your ear , it's only itchy feeling because it's healing , don't scratch it and don't put any type of over the counter medicine on it , the piercing is still healing and that's part of the healing proccess.

YES AND IT MIGHT HAPPEN EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE....YOUR HAIR SPRAY OR MAKEUP OR MOISTURIZER OR MIGHT BE A STRAND OF HAIR IS GETTING BACTERIA NEAR THE PIERCE POINT CAUSING INFLAMMATION....YOU HAVE TO KEEP THEM EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAN ALL THE TIME...ESPECIALLY THE PIERCES AT THE TOP

Allergic to gold? It could be healing...or you might have an allergy..the same thing happened to me...and it was an allergy to that cheaper type of gold that they have....
