So they'll balance theirself up in the oil fill hole

It is supposed to make them easier to pour and so you don't spill so much oil on your engine. Also it leaves less voids in the shipping box as opposed the the old round cans.

So they are easier to pour other like a watering can for plants you can direct it before it starts to come out.
