How can I fix my PS2? If I need to clean the lense can you tell how to get to it? Usually if I put in a certain DVD or game that is used to play perfectly fine it says disc read error, none of my discs have scratches or anything else on them and some games and DVDs are brand new.

All of the discs are legal and bought with hard earned money...

My husbands finally gave up the ghost a few months ago. His also read disc error. Give Sony a ring and they will collect your old one and at the same time replace it with a reconditioned one. However, if I recall rightly it cost about £50 to do.( He's back home now so I was wrong with £80 )He'd had his for over 3 years. You might be able to get it done for free if yours is still within warranty. The Sony UK Playstation careline is 08705998877 and if you phone with your PS2 serial number and credit/debit card details they'll have a reconditioned identical spec one with you in about 3 days. But for heavens sake don't open it up unless you're an expert as Sony won't touch you with a bargepole if you've had a crack at it yourself. Sony won't replace it and you'll have to buy a new one (at an extra £40 approx). Or wait for PS3.

Ok..So I had this problem twice so far and I have fixed it both times. It will work, but you need to have some guts and not be afraid.

Flip your Playstation 2 over, there are rubber pieces that pop out. Under these pieces are screws. Unscrew all of the screws on the bottom of the unit (Off the top of my head I think it is either 6 or 8 screws). Remember where each screw goes.

Take the unit apart, and you will be able to see the laser eye. Use a sterile cotton swab and clean the lens and surrounding area.

Put the unit back together and your problems should be solved.

Note: I also have had the problem of having my PS2 scratch the games that are left in and on for long periods of time. In order to protect against this, purchase some D-skins at best buy or circuit city. They are plastic protectors that you can leave on while you play a game or watch a movie. Good investment if you ask me.

Good luck!

.simple go to your local stationary or computer shop and bye some air spray for dusting keyboards and stuff open the draw and direct the spray inside. this should solve it as it is usually just dust on the laser lens.
