He's still on trial:

"Phil Spector, currently free on $1 million bail, had been scheduled to stand trial on April 24, 2006. It was announced April 25, 2006 that due to scheduling conflicts, the judge involved has postponed the date of the trial until January 16, 2007. Spector additionally faces a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Lana Clarkson's mother, Donna Clarkson, but it won't go ahead until after the criminal trial proceedings."

Phil Spector has always been nuts. I don't know what ever happened with his murder trial except that he did admit that he shot her, but claimed it was an accident. He's always had a thing for guns. Many of the artists he's worked with claimed he fired guns in the studio as an incentive to do better. There is a fine line between genius and insanity, and I think he crossed it a long time ago.

Phil Spector

Born 26-12-1940 in New York, USA

Phil Spector invented the 'Wall of Sound', a system to overdub scores of musicians to create a roar of sound, which changed music history. He described it as the "Wagnerian approach to rock & roll".

At 21 he was a millionaire and started to work on his 'Wall of Sound' in earnest. In three years, Spector had 20 consecutive smash hits including the Ronettes' "Be My Baby," and "Baby I Love You".

In 1966 Spector produced Ike and Tina Turner’s 'River Deep, Mountain High'. Spector considered it his greatest production to date, but it was only a hit in England.

In 1969, Spector returned to remix the Beatles, balancing his Wall style for George Harrison’s music with more minimal arrangements for Lennon’s.

He went on to write and produce music for film until, in 2003, Spector was arrested in connection with the shooting of actress Lana Clarkson. It appears that he'd only just met her.

Spector's trial has been re-scheduled several times since then. The latest is set for January 16th 2007. He is free on $1 million bail on charges of murdering Clarkson at his mansion.

Phil SPECTOR was accused of murder, his trial has been postponed until next month.
This fact must not erase that as a music producer and arranger, he was a genius, one of the most creative and innovative of all.
