Let's see...is it possible to create a magnetic field to form plasma energy into a shape like a light saber's saber [or sword part]? The answer is absolutely YES!!!. But, with current technology, the equipment required to do so is anything but portable. So, to make a light saber you can walk around with and use the answer is no.
There is a lab device called a tokamak, nicknamed the"star chamber", that deals with plasma energy studies. They use very powerful electromagnets to control the plasma. But the equipment takes up most of the building. Aerospatiale has a plasma gun that is about the size of a small sports car. Can't really walk around with one of those on your hip.

Laser weapons are the closest but generally you can kill many more people by throwing the power supply at them rather than the "death ray"

as far as laser there are that contain tons of power but as containing the power......its impossible
