My husband and I normally go on Christmas Eve for presents and a few days earlier for food. Christmas is totally spoilt and seems to lose all meaning when folk start shopping early, it sometimes seems like a crazy competition to see who can spend the most money. I also hate it when people start putting up Christmas trees and decorations before December has even begun, traditionally the tree and decorations are supposed to be put up after the children have gone to bed on Christmas Eve, so when they awake on Christmas Day everything is transformed for them. We usually put our tree up about 7 days before Christmas Day. We always have a really lovely Christmas without going over the top.

I try to keep the people on my "every year" list in mind all year and if I see something that I think they'd like then I get it and give it either for their b-day or save it for Christmas. Also, stocking stuffers at the last minute is something I have trouble with so I look year long and save everything until it's needed. There is always some last minute shopping but the year long habit of keeping an eye out definately helps. Also, catalogs, catalogs, catalogs! And E-Bay for specialized stuff!

Usually? About a month ago. But I'm starting now. I love Christmas shopping and if I find something that I want to buy someone, I get it now. Never know if it'll be around later (or more expensive).

Never. Sometimes I buy gifts for special friends. But I don't celebrate Christmas. It's a bogus holiday. It purports to celebrate the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, but was adopted from the annual celebration of the birth of the sun god around the time of the winter solstice.
If we can believe the gospel of Luke, Jesus could not possibly have been born around the time of the winter solstice, On the night of his birth, Luke says, "There were shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night." Uh-uh. Not in Palestine and certainly not at the elevations around Bethlehem. Shepherds do not keep their sheep in the fields in December;. there's nothing for the flock to eat then. They bring them in by mid-September.
In fact, the best estimate I've seen for the date of the man's birth was September 11, 3 B.C.E. The explanation for that is too long to get into here, but it was convincing.
I hope this is useful, rather than annoying.

PS: I'm a solitary old coot. There's nothing wrong with celebrating the birth of Christ, even on the wrong day. It's the celebration that's important, not the day. And I try to celebrate his birth every day of my life.

As soon as I get the money to do so. I would prefer to shop in July when there are a lot of good sales, but I have to wait until my money situation is right and that's almost never. I make a way and give my children what I can. We eat, and eat, and eat some more and thank God for sending his son. We pray for all of the families who have less than we do and thank God for what we do have.
