Hi im a 22 year old girl and im desperate for a baby. Thing is i think i could be infertile. Ive been trying on and off for like 4 years and im still not pregnant. My doctor has done no tests but thinks i must be able to become pregnant because my periods are regular. The only thing i can think of is shortly after i begun my periods for the first time they were really heavy and really painfull but i kinda thought that was fairly normal. Does anyone know of any tests that can be done to check fertility rates?

it's a long and expensive procedure to check for fertility...i would check for cysts first of all...sometimes if you have them, it could cause problems with getting pregnant..also change your position..make sure you butt and legs are elevated...also relax..yes it is normal for when you periods to start to be heavy and painful, i don't think that has anything to do with it..give it time.

When you say heavy and painful periods, I know this is a bit gross but did you have alot of clotting. If you have uterine fibroids this could cause both heavy/painful periods and trouble getting pregnant. An ultrasound will diagnose this condition

They usually test the guys first (cos it's easier and it's more common for the infertility to be a male issue).

Then they would do a variety of hormone level tests to see how your menstrual cycle is going.

I'm not so sure beyond that. It's not my area. I could go look it up.
