if you've got the latest version of yahoo messenger (http://messenger.yahoo.com) you can sent SMS directly from Yahoo Messenger. It's free and don't cost you a thing.
To do that, choose ACTIONS from your main messenger window, then Send an SMS Message... type in the mobile phone number, your message and click send!
